Internet Phone Service

If not, get prepared to change the way you think about long distance phone calls. You can actually use your Internet connection to make cheap telephone calls anywhere in the world. Today we find several Internet phone service providers across the world that provide this service at little or no cost and can help you reduce your phone bills drastically.

Thousands of people each month are subscribing to VoIP service and having their regular telephone line disconnected. Internet phone service is a HUGE deal for us consumers, as it provides us with a super cheap alternative to traditional telephone service, and gives us something very important: CHOICES! Perhaps for the first time in our lives, we are no longer required to use our local phone company for telephone service – isn’t that great?

VoIP is not for everyone, though. There are some requirements and drawbacks to internet phone service that may or may not influence your decision to switch. Most people consider the potential issues associated with VoIP to be minor, and find that the low cost and free features of broadband phone service far outweigh any negatives.

Most people who switch from traditional “land line” phone service to internet phone service do so because the tremendous cost savings associated with VoIP far outweighs the potential inconvenience caused by occasional power or internet failure. Unlimited local and long distance plans are available from $ 199 a year (Sunrocket and Packet8 annual unlimited plans) to $ 24.99 a month (Vonage and AT&T Call Vantage). This can represent a savings of $ 500 a year or more versus traditional phone service, depending on your long distance calling habits.

Skype Internet Phone Service

Skype is an eBay company that provides Internet telephony service as an international company started in 2003 with headquarters in Luxembourg. Their founders had experience in similar services in the television sector. The service uses the latest technology of VOIP as a peer to peer setup rather than the more popular server/client model. Its popularity has resulted in rapid growth since it entered this communication niche. Skype is a software program that allows users from all corners of world to interact with each other thru voice, video or messages using the VOIP that the Internet provides at a very favorable cost when compared to the standard land line connection rates. Skype’s ease of operation and clarity has resulted in greater efficiency, increase in commumication between city offices and a more competitive atmosphere in the work place for all sizes of businesses.

The software can be downloaded on the internet at no cost to the user and requires a broadband internet connection.

Be aware that Skype can’t be used for emergency 911 calls so make arrangements for that possibility.

A great advantage is that calls between Skype to Skype users are free any time of the day and any where you call, so don’t be afraid to make that call to say hi or talk business. For the people you call that aren’t on the service you can still call at land lines and wireless at a very low rate.
